My name is Kevin Burton, I am a 36 year old freelance I.T. contractor and hopehousecottage.co.uk is my home page. I live in rural Worcestershire with my wife Mary and 1 year old son Conor.

I graduated from Liverpool John Moores University (Liverpool Polytechnic at the time) in 1991 with a degree in Computer Studies and after an enforced sabatical period began work in the I.T. industry. I now have over 10 years of diverse industry experience covering support roles, software development, consultancy and web design.

My first job was an 18 month freelance programming contract for a small startup company producing PC based Interactive Voice Recognition (IVR) software in the telecomms industry. Here I was programming in C++ and began my long association with Visual Basic. Sadly this company (called PhoneMan Ltd.) are no longer with us but it was here that I learned the essential skills of the self-employed; discipline and self-motivation.

Following this I got my first "proper job", again in the telecomms industry with Callscan Ltd. I started in support then moved to development, eventually becoming a team leader. Here I continued my work with C++ and Visual Basic.

I left Callscan to join Concentra in April 1998. In January 1999 Concentra was aquired by Oracle Corporation who I continued to work for until June 2003. I specialized in Oracle Configurator and Java but also picked up a lot of database skills and experience.
